NAHA Vermont Meeting Minutes

The meeting was called to order at 1:10 p.m. on Sunday, June 27, 2004.
It was held at the Fletcher Free Library in Burlington, VT. Three people were in attendance:

Ali Douglas, NAHA Member
Jennifer Grace, NAHA Member
Valerie Pallotta, NAHA Vermont Director

We began with introductions, who we are and what we do.

Jennifer shared information about the Blazing Star Conference coming up in July.

Ali shared information from an Occupational Therapy conference in which she did an aromatherapy presentation to her Occupational Therapy peers. She will be highlighted in a Complementary Care Newsletter in the next few months. Ali will get a copy of the article for NAHA.

I shared my exciting study this summer working with an OB/GYN using aromatherapy for morning sickness and also my desire to work with Hospice and cancer patients. It was interesting that all three of us have some Hospice connection.

We discussed how the medical community is more accepting regarding aromatherapy and complementary medicines. Ali mentioned that the University of Minnesota Children's Hospital in St. Paul has doctors who prescribe essential oils as needed.

Our educational portion was a round table discussion of the various uses of orange essential oils. Samples of bitter, blood and sweet orange along with clementine were passed around.

The ARC exam and the benefits of taking it for credibility issues was discussed.

A conference overview was given. I shared the energy I felt from the conference and how I feel NAHA is moving in an upward, positive direction. Both Ali and Jennifer felt they had confidence in the direction NAHA was going.

The future elections were discussed. Both Jennifer and Ali received ballots. Ali was curious what the questionnaire was that was sent with the ballot. I wasn't sure what questionnaire she was referring to and told her I would ask Teshan. Jennifer inquired about grant/research money from NAHA. I told her I would check on that also.

We took the time to set our personal aromatic goals. We will focus on these goals over the next three months and report back in October. We decided our oil for the next meeting will be Oak Moss. We will research and use this oil and discuss at our next meeting.
Our next meeting is planned for Monday, October 4, 2004 at 6:00 p.m.

Meeting adjourned at 2:35 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,

Valerie Pallotta
