NAHA NYC Meeting Minutes
The meeting was called to order at 1:10 PM on Sunday October 19, 2003.
The meeting was held at SPA F.L.A.M. (For Ladies and Men) in New York,
NY.
10 people were in attendance including 3 directors:
Karen Flam, New York City Area Director
Katherine Graf, Upstate NY Area Director
Shellie Enteen, Florida Area Director
The
meeting was free of charge, and a delicious, organic, vegan lunch was
available
for purchase, which many people enjoyed.
Karen
Flam began with a presentation of NAHA and the “Essential Oil of the Month
Program”.Shellie Enteen
took minutes. The next meeting will be held sometime in January or February
(Probably February 8, 2004) in Manhattan.
The next meeting will be held in conjunction with Katherine Graf
and Karen Flam and will include a speaker.
(Possibly NAHA Member Trygve Harris to speak on Agarwood/Sandlewood??.
Group
Introductions: Everyone introduced themselves. (4 people were
not NAHA members but were interested.)
The NAHA Membership level structure
and dues were explained.
The conference was announce as
being held in Virginia in April 2004.
Copies of the NAHA brochure and
Aromatherapy Journal were distributed.
ARC exam was explained and discussed.
The next NYC ARC exam is on November 8, 2003
Educational
Portion:
Sweet Orange – our Essential Oil of the Month. 2 types were passed around and compared: Young Living and Nelson’s from England.
2 types of Neroli Hydrosol were passed around: Kerstin Florian from Sweden and Skingenuity Hydrosols (SPA F.L.A.M.’s brand) – wild crafted in Canada.
Also a Blend of Citrus was passed containing Sweet Orange, Tangerine, Grapefruit, Mandarin, Lemon and Spearmint.
Group discussions and Q & A followed.
Sherrin Bernstein asked about blending techniques for bodyworkers.
Shellie Enteen contributed advice about using ones nose and intuition in blending for clients.
3 Books were recommended: P. Davis’ Subtle Aromatherapy, Gabriel Moray(sp??) Aromatherapy for Healing the Spirit, and Syllas Sheppard-Hanger's 2 Book set.
Educational opportunities were discussed. Attendees were also refered to NAHA’s website www.naha.org.
Mimi Akins briefly discussed Aura Soma (Color and Water Therapy), followed by social time.
The meeting adjourned at 2:10 PM.
The Next meeting will be on February 8. 2004 from 1-3 PM at the Home of Mimi Akins.
Trygve Harris will speak on Sandalwood and Agarwood.
