Essential Oils for Trauma and Abuse
with Katharine Koeppen, RA, LMT, NCTMB
Survivors of trauma and abuse are a very singular population, and it is possible to facilitate profound healing in these individuals via careful application of aromatherapy. A holistic approach, in addition to conventional talk therapy and counseling, is often required to assist people in processing deeply imbedded cellular memories created as a result of traumatic incident. Due to their rapid interaction with the limbic brain, essential oils can provide an ideal conduit for interacting with the confused emotions and bruised spirit of the abuse survivor.
This presentation will provide a brief overview of traumatic experience and how it is processed in the brain, as well as the type of training and special considerations necessary for working with abuse survivors. Many essential oils can be employed in facilitating trauma recovery, but a few oils are known to be particularly helpful for specific types of abuse. Using examples from her private practice, Katharine will outline psychospiritual profiles of these essential oils and their unique applications in trauma recovery.
