Consumer Cautions/Alerts
Aromatherapy is an incredibly large unregulated field. Although that does have its benefits for the time being, as a consumer you may be in for trouble. We at NAHA have been recipients of many complaints and concerns regarding the practices and products of many companies. Since we are non-profit we will not affiliate ourselves with any one particular entity but feel it is imperative to offer information we feel is the most appropriate for safe practice and to protect you, the consumer from being taken advantage of. Since we are only one association we welcome your comments and concerns. We file your complaints of other entities and individuals and once we have 3-5 consistent issues sourced and verified issues we will be doing our own research for potential inclusion in this section. Since there are many different views on the subject of safety and essential oil practice and use, we have decided to include statements from those we feel have the most accurate and well substantiated information.

Professional Views on Safety and Essential Oils Practice.

In the meantime, please consult this website link as a source for checking out your curiosities and concerns: www.quackwatch.org

Although I would never particularly claim that essential oils cannot benefit from a variety of practices there are common sense, rules of thumb, questions to ask as follows:

Have you ever heard of this technique, product or service benefiting any amount of people?

Can you find 3-5 resources supporting this technique, product or service?

Can you find 3-5 resources not supporting this technique, product or service?

Have you researched all that is involved in this technique, product or service, for example:
Would you typically use a product in this manner safely? What are the ingredients that go into the product – are they safe, natural, well noted for their benefits? Are there any notations clearly linking this to be unsafe?
Is the service new and/or has it had any substantiated claims, positive or negative in nature?

Please note: Although we do not endorse or criticize any one particular company, product, practice, or the like we are interested in providing you with information so that you as the consumer may make the most appropriate decision for you, your family and your safety. Due to varying degrees of experience and levels of comfort we understand you may or may not find this information useful – NAHA Directors and representatives in your area are more than happy to answer any questions you may have from the perspective of a trained Aromatherapy Professional.
