The Soul-Level Roots of Female Hormonal Disharmony:
Comparing Essential Oils of Clary Sage and Vetivert

2-Hour NAHA Tele-seminar Class
January 14th, 2010
Instructor: Dr. Bruce Berkowsky, founder of Spiritual PhytoEssencing

Inner Soul Nature of Essential Oils:

Spiritual PhytoEssencing is a synthesis that employs certain aspects of aromatherapy, Kabbalah, Chinese and herbal medicines, classical homeopathy, modern physiology, depth psychology, color therapy, gemstone healing and anthroposophical science. It is an art designed to help overcome the separation of daily consciousness from the higher self; this separation is at the core of emotional and physical disharmony and may give rise to disease. The goal is to “see” and work upon this core state that underlies all the mental compensations we make to shelter and contain our weaknesses and disappointments.

In Spiritual PhytoEssencing, the bioenergetic (rather than the chemical) aspect of an essential oil is given greater emphasis. Plants are alive, and everything that lives has a soul. The essential oil is the carrier of the soul of the plant. Rudolf Steiner, the founder of anthroposophical medicine, notes: “Matter is most spiritual in the perfume of the plant…when the spirit most closely approaches the physical earth, then we have the perception of fragrance.” An essential oil (the bonding medium for the soul of the plant) is uniquely suited to act as the physical entity that can facilitate an interface between plant souls and human souls.

Imaginative consciousness is an important element in Spiritual PhytoEssencing. In this reference, imaginative consciousness enables one to go beyond analysis of the physical properties of a given essential oil via a complementary perception of the spiritual roots from which these physical properties arise. While these spiritual roots are beyond the reach of the senses and rational consciousness, they nevertheless are the source of the material nature of an essential oil.

Every living cell must be animated by a vital force, or “ensouled,” and it’s this incarnation of higher forces into living tissue that lends each organism its tangible expression. Hence, when using essential oils for psycho-spiritual work, all of the physical features, clinical properties and historical associations, etc. of the plant can be used to develop an understanding of its spiritual roots.

Female Hormonal Dysregulation:
In my 2-hour teleseminar class, I will interweave the symptoms of female hormonal dysregulation used in aromatherapy as indications for consideration of clary sage oil or vetivert oil with various soul level synchronicities associated with each of these two oils. In concert, this integration facilitates in-depth elaboration of the very different psycho-spiritual themes specific to these two oils, and a clear picture of each oil’s unique inner soul nature.

Normally, hormones help regulate various processes in the body. On the other hand, when hormone action is deficient or otherwise imbalanced, it contributes to a state of dysregulation. Both clary sage and vetivert are indicated for female hormonal dysregulation. How then do we determine which of the two is most relevant regarding a specific woman?

Precisely Targeted Individualized Therapy:

Spiritual PhytoEssencing’s highly detailed elaboration of the unique, inner soul nature of each essential oil provides the crucial differentiating insight required for precise individualization of the therapeutic use of these oils on a person-by-person basis. Accordingly, one strives to use those essential oils whose inner soul nature has the greatest degree of congruence with the true Self of the person with whom they will be used.

A general principle of clinical practice is: The success of a given therapy is directly proportional to the degree that the therapy is individualized. While general measures are hit or miss, individualized therapy is precisely targeted. Ideally, one should select essential oils that “fit the case” on both physical and psycho-spiritual levels. When this is done, the impression that the oil makes upon the organism is far deeper and longer-lasting.
